First Class Sailing is one of the UK’s leading sailing schools offering the full range of RYA Courses. One of our most popular is the Day Skipper Practical course which teaches basic pilotage, boat handling, seamanship, and navigation over five consecutive days.
However, we understand that it’s not possible for everyone to commit to spending five days on the water to take the course, which is why we also offer an RYA Day Skipper Weekend Course. Instead of completing it over five days, you can instead choose to complete it over two weekends, one long, and one short from our Southampton location.
Each weekend evening, we will aim to visit a different marina, harbour, or anchorage in the Solent. You will eat and sleep on board. You will share the boat with the instructor, plus between two and three other students. Alternatively, you can book the Day Skipper weekend courses for yourself and four friends if you wish.

Before taking a RYA Day Skipper Practical Course over two weekends in Southampton you will need to have already completed the Competent Crew Course or be at Competent Crew level plus, you need to have completed the Once you have completed the course, you will be able to skipper a yacht in familiar waters by day. Or perhaps charter a boat in somewhere like the Med.
